Rick@Rickscadden.comMy Story
Rick Scadden’s story is not one of overnight success—it is one of survival, surrender, and rebuilding from the ground up. Raised in poverty and shaped by fatherlessness, instability, abuse, and addiction, Rick’s early life followed a destructive trajectory. By his early twenties, he had accumulated four felony convictions and multiple stints in jail and prison. The labels were stacking up, and so were the consequences. Every statistic suggested his future would end in incarceration, addiction, or worse.
Prison was not just a sentence—it was a mirror. It forced Rick to confront the cycles he had been living in and the patterns that were quietly destroying everything around him. But rock bottom became a turning point. Instead of repeating the same script, he began rebuilding—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. What started as survival turned into discipline. Discipline turned into growth. Growth turned into leadership.
The transformation didn’t happen in a moment. It was forged through hard decisions, accountability, faith, and relentless work to unlearn poverty mindsets, victim mentalities, and self-sabotaging behaviors. Rick rebuilt his life piece by piece—restoring relationships, pursuing education, and stepping into leadership roles that once seemed impossible.
Today, Rick serves as a pastor at Citipointe Church Northern Colorado, equipping leaders and building strong communities. He is the author of Four Time Felon, a raw account of his journey from prison to purpose, and the founder of Hope Beyond Bars, a nonprofit dedicated to helping people break destructive cycles and rebuild their futures.
Rick’s mission is clear: to prove that a record doesn’t define a person, that pain can produce purpose, and that responsibility is the gateway to freedom. Whether speaking in prisons, churches, recovery centers, or leadership conferences, Rick challenges people to confront their past honestly and build something better moving forward.
What drives his work today is simple—he refuses to let the man he used to be go to waste. Every failure, every sentence, every scar has become fuel to help others rewrite their story.
Because your worst chapter doesn’t have to be your final one.
My Values
Responsibility
Transformation begins the moment we stop blaming and start owning. True freedom is built on personal accountability and disciplined action.
Resilience
Adversity doesn’t have to define you—it can develop you. Strength is forged through hardship, perseverance, and refusing to quit.
Redemption
Your past does not get the final word. No label, record, or failure is greater than the power to rebuild.
Impact
Real transformation doesn’t stop with you; it multiplies—restoring families, strengthening communities, and building lasting legacy.
I exist to challenge labels, confront limiting mindsets, and empower individuals—especially those impacted by incarceration and addiction—to step into leadership and lasting transformation.
